video: Turn, And Face The Strange

“We wanted to focus on keeping the simple human sentiment as pure as possible,” says Brendan Harney, one half of Wheat. On White Ink Black Ink, the band’s latest release, Harney and Scott Levesque portray human sentiment with their trademark charm, hailed as “quirky and compelling” by the Boston Globe. The duo’s silliness abounds in their new “Changes Is” video. Cutting between an intimate, costumed performance and a painted, transforming man and woman, the video entertains on several levels. While the band rocks out in rabbit ears, the artsy couple embodies the chorus, “Changes is the better part of me.” The video’s most personal moments come when Levesque sings directly into the camera, making us wonder if his lyrics are an appeal to the listener or himself. Wheat has been pushing the envelope creatively since 1996, and White Ink Black Ink is no exception.
