video: Black Kids Wanna ‘Rock Whicoo’

Black Kids

Jacksonville, Florida upstarts, Black Kids unleash their psychedelic dance-rock onto video format this week with the debut of ‘Look at Me (When I Rock Whicoo)’. The Black Kids video is a clear indication that pop-culture history is destined to repeat itself. The video is a creatively crafted retro romp composed of race car cartoons and roller coasters reminiscent of 70’s “flower-power” which happens to leave the unfortunate viewer seeing strawberry fields forever.

This bad acid trip journey starts with the band boarding a roller coaster in a fairly-tale theme park called “Tune Town,” it’s all down hill from there. As the scenes continue the audience is shown that each band member possess some vague super-power or ability to produce shinny lights and pastel colors out of thin air. The cartoon leaves “Tune Town” for outer space and turns into this weird cross between Racer-X and Voltron with dancey, clappy, happy music; The Darkness did this not too long ago. This video begs the question “Isn’t it amazing how much time and money is spent making ‘new’ videos look 20 years old?” Grab some 3-D glasses and enjoy the paisley dance party in your ocular verves, otherwise your eyes might vomit on your favorite ironic vintage t-shirt.
