aLive: Fleet Foxes

Fleet Foxes
Schubas - Chicago, IL
April 7th 2008

Seattle’s very own folk rockers, Fleet Foxes, stole the show last night at Schubas in Chicago. Though touring with headliners Blitzen Trapper, it was apparent most fans crowded into this sold out room for the Foxes. Their three-part harmonies, ethereal guitar work, and focused restraint as they built the tension before releasing into a wash of buttery goodness was reminiscent of My Morning Jacket or Crosby, Stills, and Nash. More surprisingly was how young these guys were - yet played with the wisdom of their influences. Nailing an opening vignette of numbers from their recently released Sun Giant EP they brought a well-seasoned presence to the stage and proceeded to move into a sneak peak from their forth-coming debut full length with performances of ‘Your Protector’, ‘Blue Ridge Mountains’, and ‘Oliver James’. And incessant banter be damned - they make it a personal atmosphere for their fans. Look for these guys to be on the rise and check out their full length release towards the beginning of June.
