mp3: Watch out for Bridges and Powerlines
Bridges and Powerlines is set to release their new LP Ghost Types, the follow up to their well-regarded self-titled EP. On the heels of that early success, breakout producer Chris Zane- Les Savy Fav, White Rabbits, and Asobi Seksu- signed up to work with the band on the recently completed 11-song record, said to be equal parts nineties-styled indie-rock, psych-influenced harmony and analog synth intricacy.
The lyrically thematic album tackles “the male struggle for maturity despite the persistence of boyhood impulses,” chasing a diverse conflicted protagonists: a depression-era film director, a Bangladeshi cab driver, the captain of a doomed steam ship, and a host of others. This homage to the literati, coupled with an up-tempo rhythms, dramatic hooks, and sometimes complex synth mixing, is why Bridges and Powerlines will be an indie mainstay.
Listen to the opening cut from Ghost Types, due out April 22nd.
