Air
Riviera Theatre - Chicago
May 4th 2007
Looking as if they had just come down off a fluffy cloud of fashion, Air took the stage and breezed through a quick 80 minute set. New material was relatively scarce, while old faithfuls made the strongest showing. A relatively mellow first few songs including ‘Venus’ were easily forgotten once the crowd pleasers such as ‘Don’t Be Light ‘ and ‘Kelly Watch the Stars’ picked up the pace. Ethereal versions of ‘Talisman’ and ‘High School Lover’ were walked about as well, but the show closer ‘La Femme D’Argent’, brought the down the house. A dash of improv was added in to extend the song well over 8 minutes long. Please shoot me if that bass line ever gets old. Overall, the set was painted with a thick coat of lacquer that would please all Air fans. The house lights were up before the last note was even finished and I’m sure the duo was whisked away to a photo shoot for Louis Vuitton somewhere in Milan.
